The Kwara State Gubernatorial Primary Election Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially declared Engr. Sulyman Bolakale Kawu as the party’s flagbearer for the 2027 governorship election.
Announcing the official results on Sunday evening at the party’s state secretariat on Pipeline Road, Ilorin, the Chairman of the Primary Election Committee and Returning Officer, Senator Duro Samuel Faseyi confirmed that Engr. Kawu polled a landslide victory of 98,998 votes to defeat his lone remaining challenger, Alhaji Ladi Hassan, who secured 2,125 votes.
The formal collation and declaration exercise was witnessed by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), members of the PDP National Executive, and the State Working Committee led by the State Chairman, Hon. Isa Adamu Bawa.
Addressing Stakeholders and members of the party, the returning officer, Senator Duro Faseyi said in line with the guidelines of the party and the provisions of the Electoral Act, the party have successfully conducted a peaceful, transparent, and credible exercise across the length and breadth of Kwara State.
“The delegates have spoken clearly, and the field results have been thoroughly collated and verified.” He added.
“By the powers vested in me as the Chairman of the Election Committee and the Returning Officer for this exercise, I hereby declare Engr. Sulyman Bolakale Kawu as the winner of the PDP Gubernatorial Primary Election, having scored the highest number of valid votes.” He said.
Faseyi further commended the exceptional maturity displayed by the aspirants, the delegates, and the entire party leadership in Kwara State.
Earlier in his remarks, the State Party Chairman, noted that the day is a historic day of triumph for decency, integrity, and unity of purpose within the Kwara PDP family.
“Under the exceptional strategic guidance of our national leader, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, we have demonstrated that party supremacy and internal harmony are the ultimate bedrocks of political success” He said.
“I stand here full of pride for our State Working Committee, our local government executives, and the thousands of loyal party faithful who made today’s ratification and voting process completely seamless. We promised Kwarans a transparent and unified process, and today, we have delivered on that promise at our state secretariat.” Bawa added
Following his official declaration, Engr. Bolakale Kawu while delivering his acceptance speech expressed gratitude to national leader of the party, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, and every party executive, stakeholder, youth leader, woman, and loyal member of the PDP for the trust, prayers, and dedication to the process.
“This mandate is not about personal ambition. This is a collective duty and a victory for all Kwarans who despise self-serving politics.” He said
“To my fellow aspirants who invested their resources, energy, time, and political capital in mobilizing our people and strengthening our part your sacrifice, maturity, and commitment to unity have brought us to this defining moment. History will remember you for putting the collective good above short-term individual aspirations.” Kawu added.
He further dedicated the victory for the people of Kwara State who remained hopeful, patient, loyal, and committed to the dream of a better and more prosperous state, adding that their faith in the independence of a greater Kwara has kept this moment alive.
“I, Engr. Sulyman Bolakale Kawu, accept this mandate with absolute humility and a full understanding of the heavy responsibility it carries. By the grace of Almighty God, I will dedicate myself fully to the service of each and every one of us.” He said, assuring party members that by the mercy and power of the Almighty, the ruinous path of the past would be cleared and that the state would be returned into the hands of a responsible, compassionate, and faithful manager under the PDP.
