The Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, Engr. Dr. Abdul Jimoh Mohammed, has today June 1 officially resumed office following his reinstatement by the Kwara State Government after over four months of suspension.

Dr. Abdul’s return to the office followed the approval of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq after the conclusion of the government’s review of the circumstances surrounding the student protest that led to his suspension in January 2026.

Recall that the state government had announced the Rector’s suspension on January 21, 2026, in the aftermath of protests by students over the use of the institution’s hostel as accommodation for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) during orientation exercises in the Polytechnic.

The Rector’s reinstatement was met with jubilation across the institution as hundreds of students trooped out to welcome him back to campus. Excited students sang songs of solidarity and appreciation to Governor AbdulRazaq as they celebrated the return of the Polytechnic’s Chief Executive Officer, describing the development as a positive step for the institution.

Speaking shortly after his arrival, Dr. Abdul Mohammed expressed profound gratitude to Governor AbdulRazaq for the confidence reposed in him and for granting him the opportunity to continue serving the institution.

“I am deeply grateful to His Excellency, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for his trust, understanding and confidence in my leadership. The Polytechnic will continue to support his administration and we will not let him down.” the Rector stated.

He also appreciated members of the committee constituted by the state government to investigate the circumstances surrounding the protest, while commending them for conducting a thorough and objective review of the matter.

The Rector therefore called on students especially the Students’ Union Government (SUG) to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and committed to the values of dialogue and mutual understanding in addressing concerns affecting the institution.

“I urge all our students to embrace peace at all times and shun actions capable of disrupting the academic peace. Education remains the primary reason why we are here, and I encourage every student to remain focused on their studies and work towards achieving academic excellence,” he said.

Dr. Abdul assured students, staff, and stakeholders of his administration’s commitment to advancing the growth and development of the Polytechnic, while expressing optimism that the Polytechnic will continue to record significant progress under his leadership.
