The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed concerns over a circulating threat notice allegedly pasted in a school, which claimed that bandits were planning to attack and abduct schoolchildren in the state.
In a statement shared on X on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Command, Ikeja, Superintendent of Police Abimbola Adebisi, said the command is aware of the report but emphasized that there is no verified intelligence indicating any imminent threat of attack within Lagos State.
The police urged parents, guardians, school authorities, and residents to remain calm and avoid panic, assuring them that the state remains secure.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Tijani Fatai, has ordered an immediate assessment of the situation and directed the deployment of enhanced security measures across schools and other strategic locations in the state.
The command also disclosed that police operatives, working in collaboration with other security agencies, have been deployed to provide security for schools, critical infrastructure, and communities across Lagos.
Reassuring residents of the government’s commitment to public safety, the command stated that proactive measures have already been put in place to prevent any breach of security.
“There is presently no verified intelligence indicating any imminent threat of such an attack within Lagos State. While every security concern is treated seriously, members of the public are advised to remain calm and avoid panic,” the command stated.
The police further warned that security agencies would not tolerate any attempt by criminal elements to create fear or disrupt public peace in the state.
“The Command will not tolerate any attempt by miscreants, bandits, kidnappers, or other criminal elements to threaten the peace and safety of residents. Anyone found engaging in acts capable of causing fear or insecurity will be decisively dealt with in accordance with the law,” the statement added.
The command encouraged residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information, noting that effective policing relies heavily on public cooperation.
