The Executive Committee of the University of Ilorin Alumni Association has disowned a purported National Executive Council (NEC) meeting allegedly scheduled for Saturday, June 13, 2026, on the university campus, describing those behind it as impostors.
In a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Omobolanle Olatunde, the association stressed that the Dr. Stephen Olawale Fasakin-led executive remains the authentic and duly elected leadership of the Alumni Association, adding that no NEC meeting had been convened by the legitimate leadership.
The committee said it was necessary to clarify the situation and urged members of the university community and the general public to disregard the planned gathering, insisting it is neither authorised nor recognised by the duly elected leadership.
It further disclosed that active chapter chairmen of the association have already taken legal action against what it termed the “illegal NEC” and its promoters, with the case currently pending before the court under Suit No. KWS/41/25.
According to the statement, proceeding with any such meeting while the matter remains before the court could amount to contempt of court.
Reaffirming its stance, the Fasakin-led executive reiterated its commitment to the rule of law and expressed confidence in the judiciary to resolve the dispute, stating: “We remain law-abiding and have absolute trust in the judiciary that justice shall be served and offenders punished accordingly.”
The association therefore urged alumni members, the University of Ilorin community, and the general public to completely disregard the proposed NEC meeting.
