Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE have arrested a dismissed police inspector allegedly linked to an interstate arms trafficking syndicate operating across parts of Nigeria.
The Nigerian Army disclosed the development in a statement published on its official platforms on 15 June 2026. According to the statement, the arrest followed an intelligence-led operation carried out by troops of Sector 6 in collaboration with the Headquarters of Operation ENDURING PEACE after reports of illegal arms movements across state borders.
The suspect was apprehended on Sunday, 14 June, while travelling in a white Peugeot vehicle from Jos South to the Makera area of Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
A search of the vehicle reportedly led to the recovery of two locally made pistols, 167 rounds of 9mm ammunition, three cans of pepper spray, and a jack knife. Security operatives also recovered two mobile phones, two cutlasses, a police staff tag, photographs showing the suspect in a police uniform, two ATM cards, a National Identification Number card, and N73,300 in cash.
Preliminary investigations identified the suspect as Inspector Danjuma Yusuf, a dismissed officer formerly attached to the Nigeria Police Force Base 7 in Abuja.
According to the Army, intelligence reports linked Yusuf to an interstate arms trafficking network allegedly responsible for supplying weapons to criminal groups involved in terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other violent activities.
The military said the suspect remains in custody and is undergoing further interrogation to uncover other members of the alleged syndicate, including its financiers and supply channels.
The Army noted that the arrest forms part of ongoing efforts to dismantle illegal arms trafficking networks and recover illicit weapons. It reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with other security agencies to address security threats nationwide and urged members of the public to provide credible information to support security operations.
