Nigeria’s Apapa and Tincan Island ports have been recognised among the world’s top 20 most improved ports in the latest Container Port Performance Index (CPPI) released by the World Bank.
According to the 2025 CPPI report, published in June 2026, Tincan Island Port ranked 10th, while Apapa Port secured the 12th position on the World Bank’s CPPI performance index.
Reacting to the development, Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Abubakar Dantsoho, attributed the improved rankings to ongoing investments in port infrastructure and equipment modernisation under the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
Dantsoho said the government’s investor-friendly policies had encouraged increased investment in the maritime sector, while the support of the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, had also contributed to the implementation of key modernisation initiatives at the nation’s ports.
The recognition highlights recent efforts aimed at enhancing efficiency and competitiveness within Nigeria’s port system.
