US-Iran Peace Agreement Set for Friday Signing in Switzerland

A proposed agreement between the United States and Iran aimed at ending the Middle East conflict is expected to be formally signed on Friday at the Burgenstock resort in Switzerland, according to the Swiss foreign ministry.

Swiss authorities confirmed that the signing ceremony is scheduled for 19 June at the high-security mountain resort overlooking Lake Lucerne.

The development follows Sunday’s announcement by both Washington and Tehran that they had reached a memorandum of understanding designed to halt hostilities that began on 28 February after coordinated US-Israeli strikes on Iran and subsequently escalated across the region.

In a statement, the Swiss foreign ministry said the signing was, at this stage, expected to proceed as planned on Friday. It noted that the Burgenstock venue had been proposed by mediators from Pakistan and Qatar, in consultation with representatives of both countries.

Switzerland said its role had been limited to providing the diplomatic and logistical support necessary for the talks to take place on its territory. The resort was considered an appropriate location due to its secluded setting and tightly controlled access.

The planned agreement follows weeks of delicate negotiations amid growing concerns over the possibility of a wider regional conflict.

According to reports, the framework agreement has already received electronic endorsement from US President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance and Iran’s lead negotiator, Deputy Foreign Minister Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.

However, the details of the agreement have not yet been made public, leaving uncertainty over the specific commitments made by both sides.

The negotiations were reportedly complicated by disagreements surrounding Iran’s nuclear programme, economic sanctions and issues relating to the Strait of Hormuz.
