The Nigerian Senate has dismissed allegations made by Senator Adams Oshiomhole that some lawmakers’ signatures were forged during the process that led to the six-month suspension of Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Senate spokesperson, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, rejected the claims as false, insisting that no senator’s signature was forged at any stage of the proceedings. Oshiomhole, who represents Edo North, had earlier alleged in a television interview that at least three senators were listed in the report recommending Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension without their consent, claiming some lawmakers privately denied signing or endorsing the document.
Reacting, Adaramodu described the allegation as baseless, questioning its credibility and stressing that senators are independent and capable of speaking out if any wrongdoing occurs. He further stated that Senator Ireti Kingibe had not raised any complaint regarding the matter and maintained that the suspension process was conducted openly and in line with Senate rules. According to him, no senator has reported any case of forged signatures, adding that the chamber would nonetheless review Oshiomhole’s comments and take a formal position.
