The city of Ilorin in Kwara State witnessed a significant moment in its religious history as the newly appointed Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki Imam Fulani, led his first Jumu’ah prayer on Friday June 19, 2026 at the Ilorin Emirate Central Jumu’ah Mosque amidst an atmosphere of joy, hope, and spiritual fulfillment.
Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki was appointed by the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, on June 10, 2026, following the passing of the former Chief Imam, Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Solihu, on January 19, 2026.
Thousands of worshippers, Islamic scholars, community leaders, and indigenes of Ilorin converged on the mosque at the forecourt of the Emir’s Palace to witness the historic occasion and offer prayers behind the new spiritual leader.
In his inaugural sermon, Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki emphasized the importance of unity, peace, and mutual understanding among Muslims and the wider Ilorin community.
He urged worshippers to remain steadfast in faith, uphold the values of love and brotherhood, and work collectively for the progress and development of the Emirate while calling for continued prayers for peace, stability, and prosperity in Ilorin, Kwara State, and Nigeria as a whole.
Meanwhile, the congregation expressed excitement and satisfaction with Sheikh Dasuki’s conduct during the prayer session, noting that his style of leadership and delivery closely mirrored that of the late Chief Imam.
