Spanish giants Real Madrid have completed the signing of French defender Ibrahima Konate from Liverpool FC on a four-year contract, the club announced on Thursday.
The 27-year-old centre-back joins the Santiago Bernabéu outfit after the expiration of his contract at Liverpool, bringing an end to a successful five-year spell with the Premier League side.
In a statement released by the club, Real Madrid confirmed that an agreement had been reached with Konate, who will remain with Los Blancos until June 30, 2030.
“Real Madrid and Ibrahima Konate have reached an agreement for him to become a Real Madrid player for the next four seasons,” the statement read.
Konate arrived at Liverpool from RB Leipzig in 2021 and went on to establish himself as one of the club’s most dependable defenders. During his time at Anfield, he made 183 appearances and played a key role in the club’s successes, including winning the Premier League title in 2025 and the FA Cup in 2022.
The French international, who is currently representing France national football team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, becomes the latest addition to Madrid’s ambitious squad rebuild.
Real Madrid have been active in the transfer market following two consecutive seasons without securing a major trophy. The club recently appointed veteran Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho as head coach and strengthened the squad with the arrivals of Marc Cucurella and Bernardo Silva.
The Spanish club has also been linked with Denzel Dumfries of Inter Milan as it seeks further reinforcements ahead of the new season.
Meanwhile, Madrid have moved to maintain experience in defence by extending the contract of Antonio Rudiger until 2027. The club, however, bid farewell to long-serving defenders Dani Carvajal and David Alaba, whose contracts expired at the end of the season.
Konate’s arrival is expected to bolster Madrid’s defensive options as the club aims to return to the summit of European and domestic football under Mourinho’s leadership.
