Conflicting accounts have emerged over the reported abduction of Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) leader, Bayo Fabiyi, in Oke-Irese, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Initial reports claimed Fabiyi and two others were kidnapped on Monday while delivering a N30 million ransom and other items demanded by bandits for the release of an abducted victim in Oko-Irese.
However, Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, dismissed the report as false during a telephone interview. The Coordinator of the Kwara South Joint Security Network, Comrade Zubair Olaitan, also challenged parts of the earlier account.
Olaitan stated that Fabiyi was carrying N2 million, not N30 million, to the bandits before he was abducted. He also denied claims that the kidnappers demanded five motorcycles and three bags of rice, saying the information originated from one of the OPC leader’s children.
The earlier report had alleged that the bandits demanded N30 million, five motorcycles and three bags of rice as ransom, and that Fabiyi and two others were abducted while attempting to deliver the items.
