NIPR Summit Highlights Public Relations as Key Driver of Kwara’s Development

The Chairman of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Kwara State Chapter, Mr Gabriel Ogunade, has called for the strategic use of public relations to strengthen Kwara State’s development and investment prospects.

Ogunade made the remarks during the opening of the 2026 NIPR Kwara Chapter Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Summit organised by the state chapter. The event was themed “Kwara Rising: PR as Catalyst” with the sub-theme, “From Perception to Investment: How PR Shapes Kwara’s Economic Story”.

Speaking during the panel session, the Kwara State Commissioner for Finance, Hon. Dr Hauwa Nuru, emphasised the vital role of media and public relations in governance and societal development. She noted that public relations is essential for governments, businesses, and even families that want their activities to gain visibility and public recognition.

The commissioner stated that the Kwara State Government has made significant investments in publicity and communication initiatives and continues to develop new platforms to enhance information dissemination. She also commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration, saying the state has witnessed a remarkable transformation in various sectors during his tenure.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Correspondents’ Chapel in Kwara State, Mr Abiola Azeez, praised Governor AbdulRazaq for the developmental projects being executed across the state. He, however, stressed that many of the government’s achievements remain largely unknown due to inadequate publicity.

According to Azeez, even the most impactful projects may fail to achieve their intended effect if they are not properly communicated to the public. He called for regular press releases from government offices and encouraged all citizens, including farmers, transporters, marketers, and households, to embrace personal public relations practices to promote their activities and contribute to community development.

He further urged greater engagement with media practitioners, noting that they possess the expertise to effectively disseminate information and public updates. He added that many communities are deprived of vital information because of weak communication structures and inadequate media support.
