The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has defended President Bola Tinubu against criticism over the country’s security challenges, saying it is not the President’s responsibility to personally fight insecurity.
Speaking at the US-Nigeria Faith Heroes Award Gala organised by the Save Nigeria Group in Washington, Adeboye said a president’s role is to issue directives to security agencies rather than engage directly in combat.
The cleric stressed that he does not agree with claims that Tinubu has not done enough to tackle insecurity, noting that leaders fulfil their responsibilities by giving orders to their teams. He likened the situation to that of world leaders who authorise military actions without participating on the battlefield.
Adeboye maintained his support for the President despite admitting that terrorism is increasingly affecting areas close to him. He added that the security situation has worsened compared to the period before the bombing of Islamist terrorists in Nigeria last December.
