Veteran Yoruba Nollywood actor Taiwo Adeshina, widely known as Baba Elegbeje Ado, has died.

His death was announced on Tuesday by fellow actor Kunle Afod in an Instagram tribute. Afod described Adeshina as one of the legends of the Yoruba film industry, praising his immense contributions to Yoruba cinema, his talent and the lasting memories he created for audiences.

According to reports, Adeshina died on Monday, 29 June, after a brief illness, although the exact circumstances surrounding his death have not been independently confirmed.

Adeshina enjoyed a career spanning more than two decades in the Yoruba movie industry and became widely recognised for his portrayal of traditional rulers, community elders and other culturally significant characters.

His stage name, “Elegbeje Ado”, originated from one of his most memorable film roles, which became closely associated with his career and earned him widespread popularity among lovers of Yoruba cinema.

Beyond acting, Adeshina was also a Christian minister and combined his pastoral duties with his career in the film industry throughout his lifetime.

His death comes weeks after the reported passing of Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo on 11 May 2026 at the age of 40 following complications from advanced metastatic kidney cancer after what his family described as a brief but courageous battle.

Tributes have continued to pour in for Baba Elegbeje Ado, with colleagues and fans remembering him for his remarkable contributions to Yoruba cinema and the legacy he leaves behind.
