China has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening bilateral relations with Nigeria, pledging enhanced cooperation in governance, economic development and strategic engagement as the Communist Party of China (CPC) marks its 105th anniversary.
China’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, made the pledge in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday, describing the CPC as the driving force behind China’s transformation into the world’s second-largest economy and a major contributor to global growth.
According to the ambassador, the Party’s leadership has delivered long-term economic development, social stability and national rejuvenation since its establishment in 1921, while charting a modernization path tailored to China’s unique national realities.
He said China is currently advancing high-quality development, strengthening industrial capacity and recording significant scientific and technological achievements as it transitions from its 14th to the 15th Five-Year Plan.
Yu attributed China’s development to four key principles: independence and self-reliance, a people-centred approach to governance, continuous self-reform and theoretical innovation.
He noted that the CPC had consistently prioritised citizens’ welfare through the eradication of absolute poverty, expansion of healthcare and pension coverage, and the establishment of the world’s largest education and social security systems.
The envoy also highlighted China’s anti-corruption reforms and governance innovations, including President Xi Jinping’s theories on Party building, which he said have sustained the Party’s effectiveness and relevance.
On international cooperation, Yu said China has continued to promote global development through initiatives such as the Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative and Global Civilisation Initiative, aimed at fostering international cooperation and shared prosperity.
Reflecting on bilateral relations, the ambassador described the relationship between China and Nigeria as one built on trust and mutual support over the past 55 years since both countries established diplomatic ties in 1971.
He said the partnership has witnessed growing political trust and expanding cooperation across various sectors, delivering tangible benefits to both countries.
Yu reaffirmed Beijing’s support for Nigeria’s development aspirations, noting that China remains committed to supporting Nigeria’s modernization efforts through practical cooperation and strategic partnerships.
According to him, both countries will continue to strengthen collaboration through platforms such as the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), while aligning China’s 15th Five-Year Plan with Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Looking ahead, the ambassador expressed China’s readiness to further strengthen its Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Nigeria through increased exchanges on governance, enhanced strategic communication and expanded development cooperation.
He added that both nations would continue translating political consensus into practical initiatives capable of promoting mutual prosperity, regional stability and sustainable development.
