A 12-tyre truck loaded with soybeans overturned on Tuesday at the Geri Alimi Roundabout in Ilorin, Kwara State, causing heavy traffic congestion along the busy route.
The truck, which was transporting soybeans from Olam Company at Asa Dam in Ilorin to the company’s facility at Ogbondoroko in Asa Local Government Area, reportedly lost balance and tumbled at the roundabout. Fortunately, no lives were lost and no injuries were recorded in the incident.
The incident disrupted vehicular movement, forcing motorists travelling from Mandate Market towards Asa Dam to divert through Odota Road, where they were directed to make a U-turn as traffic built up around the Geri Alimi axis.

Muhammed Bashir, who was at the scene, reported that emergency traffic control measures were immediately put in place to ease the congestion.
Speaking with our correspondent, the visibly distressed driver said the accident had left him devastated.
“This is a huge loss for me. I am already indebted by millions of naira. I am only a hired driver, and the truck has been badly damaged. More than 50 bags of soybeans burst open during the accident. I thank God for sparing my life and for His mercy that no one was killed,” he said.
As of the time of filing this report, operatives of the Nigeria Police Force and officials of the Kwara State Road Traffic Management Authority (KWARTMA) were at the scene managing traffic and diverting motorists to restore the free flow of movement.
