Peter Obi Mourns Music Legend Dolly Parton

The presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has joined millions around the world in mourning the death of legendary American country music singer and songwriter, Dolly Parton.

Parton reportedly died on Tuesday at the age of 80. Her nephew and longtime security chief, Bryan Seever, confirmed her death in a video shared on the singer’s official social media accounts.

In a tribute posted on his X handle on Wednesday, Obi described Parton as a remarkable woman whose greatness extended beyond her celebrated music career.

He said her most enduring legacy was the person she remained despite attaining global fame, wealth and success.

Obi noted that Parton’s humble upbringing in rural Tennessee shaped the compassion, humility and generosity she demonstrated throughout her life.

He said her songs resonated with millions because she sang about love, heartbreak, hardship, loneliness, hope and the struggles of ordinary people from a place of genuine understanding.

According to Obi, Parton’s success never made her forget her roots, adding that she used her music and influence to inspire and support children, the poor and other vulnerable people.

He particularly referenced her song Coat of Many Colors, describing it as an example of how she transformed her humble beginnings into music that brought comfort and inspiration to millions.

Obi concluded his tribute by praying that God would grant the late singer eternal rest, describing her as “a compassionate soul” whose life demonstrated that success need not erase one’s connection to their roots.
