Life is a journey of challenges, lessons, and chances to serve. In community development, few people combine passion, courage, and steady commitment the way Dr. L. O. Olohungbebe does. Twelve years ago, in 2014, I was selected to train as a community development volunteer through his outstanding NGO, HICA, where he served as Chief Volunteer. That experience changed me and it was guided by his steady leadership.
Dr. Olohungbebe’s name is synonymous with selfless service, practical community engagement, and purposeful humanitarian action. He has driven numerous initiatives, including the Countryside Emerging Leaders Fellowship (CELF), and he shows clearly that development is not achieved by words alone. It requires commitment, sacrifice, teamwork, and the willingness to act.
As our Chief Volunteer, he has shown remarkable resourcefulness in spotting community needs and mobilising people, ideas, funds, and goodwill to meet them. His leadership is dependable: he brings direction, confidence, and renewed hope wherever he works.
Recently, the Kwara State government appointed him Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, a recognition many of us applauded. At the national level, he serves as Chairman of the Nigeria Commissioners of Education, representing the country at several international forums. Yet what sets him apart is his view of volunteerism, he serves without waiting for recognition and never measures his efforts by personal gain. His reward is seeing people empowered and communities uplifted.
Dr. Olohungbebe also understands collective responsibility. He invites participation, encourages contribution, and models the teamwork needed for lasting progress. His contributions go beyond material support: his ideas, counsel, experience, networks, and encouragement are all vital assets to community development across the country.
True leadership is measured by the lives it touches and the legacy it leaves. By that standard, Dr. L. O. Olohungbebe is a standout community builder and an exemplary chief volunteer. We celebrate his dedication, his passion for development, and his steady commitment to service. He’s chosen to be part of the solution and he keeps proving that real greatness is found in serving others.
