Disrespect Had Set In — Hanga Reveals why Relationship With Kwankwaso Broke Down

Senator Rufai Sani Hanga, representing Kano Central, has explained the breakdown of his relationship with former Kano State Governor and Kwankwasiyya leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Hanga said the disagreement began to deepen after he became more politically active and organised large-scale empowerment programmes for constituents.

Speaking in an interview with Dan’uwa Rano TV, the senator recalled an empowerment event where he distributed vehicles, rice, fertiliser, livestock, grinding machines and other items.

According to Hanga, Kwankwaso attended the event but appeared unhappy with the scale of the programme. He said the former governor left after prayers and did not return.

Hanga claimed Kwankwaso later confronted him, accusing him of organising the programme because people were praising his performance as a senator.

The senator also alleged that Kwankwaso had previously requested that certain individuals outside his senatorial district benefit from his empowerment programmes, including asking him to provide a vehicle for a man from Shanono.

Hanga said the incidents made him feel that disrespect had entered their relationship, which he believed contributed to the eventual breakdown between them.

He further claimed that Kwankwaso was uncomfortable with the size of his empowerment programmes and his growing popularity.

Hanga also linked the worsening relationship to his failure to secure the ticket to return to the Senate, saying Kwankwaso, whom he described as the Jagora (leader) of the movement, played a role in the political fallout.
