On Wednesday, NiMet forecast partly cloudy skies across the North, with chances of morning thunderstorms and light rains over parts of Bauchi, Jigawa and Yobe. More widespread thunderstorms and moderate rains are expected in the afternoon and evening.

The North Central region is expected to have sunny skies with patches of clouds in the morning before thunderstorms and moderate rains spread across the region later in the day.

For the South, NiMet predicted a generally cloudy atmosphere, with light morning rains over parts of Edo, Cross River, Delta, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Rivers, followed by thunderstorms and moderate rains across the region.

The agency urged Nigerians to take precautions, warning that strong winds may precede thunderstorms and advising residents to secure loose objects.

NiMet also warned that continuous rainfall in coastal areas could trigger flash floods, urging motorists to avoid driving or wading through floodwaters and to exercise caution during heavy rainfall.

Residents were further advised to disconnect electrical appliances from sockets, stay away from tall trees and remain updated through NiMet’s weather reports.

The agency also urged airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports to aid effective flight planning.
