Pensioners under the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) and the Contributory Pension Scheme have protested at the Lagos House in Ikeja, demanding the implementation of approved pension increases and wage awards.
The retirees also called on the Lagos State Government to pay outstanding pension arrears and other benefits they said were owed to them.
The protest was reportedly disrupted when police officers fired tear gas at the pensioners, forcing some of them to disperse.
The development created tension at the government premises, with the retirees expressing dissatisfaction over the use of force against them.
The pensioners had earlier issued an August 31 deadline for the payment of their outstanding pension enhancement and wage awards.
