Kwara State Polytechnic, has hosted its maiden Registry Symposium, assembling registry professionals and administrative stakeholders from across tertiary institutions to discuss strategies for repositioning registry administration toward enhanced institutional governance and service delivery.
The symposium, themed “Redefining Modern Registry: Driving Institutional Excellence Through Discipline, Ethics and Regulatory Compliance,” took place on Tuesday at the Rear Admiral Muhammed Lawal Auditorium of the Polytechnic’s main campus in Ilorin.
Delivering the opening remarks on behalf of the Rector, Engr. Dr. Abdul Jimoh Muhammed, the Deputy Rector (Admin), Dr. Mrs. Felicia Awolola, commended the institution’s leadership for fostering an innovative environment and praised the Acting Registrar and organizers for convening key professionals to share institutional management insights.
The Acting Registrar of the Polytechnic, Mr. A. H. Amin, while speaking at the event described the maiden Registry Symposium as a landmark event aimed at repositioning the Registry Department for greater efficiency, professionalism and institutional excellence.
In his address as Chairman of the occasion, former Acting Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Nasir Oyebanji Oyeleke, described the Registry as the “soul and heartbeat” of any tertiary academic institution. He urged participants to foster inter-institutional collaboration to tackle contemporary administrative challenges.
Formally declaring the event open on behalf of the Special Guest of Honour, the representative of the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, highlighted the Registry’s critical role as the administrative engine room responsible for record preservation, policy enforcement, and compliance.
He reiterated the Kwara State Government’s commitment under Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, to support capacity building, digital modernization, and structural reforms across tertiary institutions.
Delivering the keynote paper on behalf of Dr. Taiye Liasu (Assistant Director of Educational Planning, Research, and Development at the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development), Dr. Saadat Yusuf emphasized that modern registries must evolve beyond routine paperwork.
She urged registry departments to adopt proactive risk management, strategic cross-unit collaboration, and ethical safeguards to drive sustainable performance across Nigeria’s higher education sector.
The gathering which brought together academicians and policy makers also featured presentation of recognition awards to past registrars and deserving personalities.
