Police operatives attached to the Ijebu-Igbo Division of the Ogun State Command have arrested a 20-year-old man, Ayomide Kamula, in connection with the alleged gang rape of a 19-year-old girl in the Oke Sopen area of Ijebu-Igbo, Ijebu North Local Government Area of the state.
Kamula was arrested on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, following a report lodged at the police station by the victim’s mother. According to the police, the alleged incident occurred on August 30 at the victim’s residence in Odo Idi Scale, Oke Sopen, Ijebu-Igbo.
Following the report, police operatives visited and secured the alleged crime scene to gather relevant evidence. The victim was also taken to the General Hospital for medical examination and treatment with the aid of a Police Medical Form, in line with standard procedures and survivor-centred care.
The Deputy Police Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Command, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, confirmed the arrest on Thursday, stating that preliminary investigations led to the identification and arrest of Kamula. He added that the suspect is currently in police custody and undergoing interrogation.
According to daily post Opeyemi disclosed that the police are intensifying intelligence-led searches to apprehend another alleged suspect, identified as Boye Balogun, who is currently at large.
The case is expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, condemned the alleged incident, describing sexual and gender-based violence as a serious crime that would not be tolerated in the state.
The police commissioner reaffirmed the command’s zero-tolerance policy towards sexual offences and assured the victim’s family and the public that a thorough and discreet investigation would be conducted, while efforts would continue to bring the fleeing suspect to justice.
