The bid of the PDP Senatorial Candidate for Kwara South, Hon. Prince Saheed Popoola – Ifokanbale 1, received a major boost last week as party stakeholders and traditional institutions threw their weight behind his grassroots unity movement ahead of the 2027 elections.
The momentum began with a strategic meeting between Popoola and Hon. Dr. Harry Ilori and his team. Addressing party leaders, Popoola declared that he is “not tired of reaching out to our people” and reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive leadership.
He recalled his antecedents as Offa Local Government Chairman and State Assembly member, where he was known for carrying everyone along irrespective of factions.
Party elders at the meeting described Popoola’s candidacy as the “renewal of Kwara South” and praised his track record of grassroots engagement. In response, Dr. Ilori pledged unalloyed loyalty to the party’s decision and promised to work with all stakeholders to deliver PDP in 2027.
The unity drive extended to Omu-Aran, the headquarters of Irepodun LGA, in what observers described as a historic show of alignment between the party and traditional institutions.
Popoola was formally presented to His Royal Majesty, Oba Abdulraheem Adeoti Olaoti, the Olomu of Omu-Aran and the Olomu-in-Council by a delegation of PDP elders from across Kwara South.
At the palace, the candidate paid homage and sought royal prayers and blessings for the journey ahead. He assured the monarch and council of chiefs of his dedication to integrity, purposeful representation, and the overall development of Kwara South.
The Olomu-in-Council received the delegation warmly and offered prayers for a peaceful and successful outing for PDP in 2027.
Speaking further, Popoola clarified that the composition of participants for his ongoing campaign tour is being handled by party leadership and grassroots structures, and not by any individual. He urged members to prioritize unity over personal interest.
“With the support of our party members, leaders, and our revered traditional institutions, this grassroots movement will restore hope and deliver massive victory for PDP in Kwara South in 2027,” Popoola stated.
Party faithful who spoke at both engagements described the dual endorsement from party stakeholders and the Palace as a clear signal that the PDP is repositioning for victory.
The report of the engagements has continued to generate excitement across the 7 LGAs of Kwara South, with many describing it as the beginning of a new chapter for the party in the zone.
