For decades, the primary bottleneck for rural development in Southeastern Nigeria has been poor transport infrastructure.
Smallholder farmers in communities like Alayi, Nneato, and Ohafia lose a significant portion of their yield to spoilage simply because getting produce to urban markets is a costly, logistically painful ordeal.
The recent wave of infrastructure projects captured in the 2025 Federal Government Budget attracted by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu targets this exact vulnerability. With over 25 strategic road constructions and rehabilitations spanning Bende, Isikwuato, Umunneochi, Ohafia, and Arochukwu, the focus is clearly on rural integration rather than just cosmetic urban pave-overs.
Connecting agricultural hubs like Agbo, Umuenyere, and Aroikpa directly to major arteries drastically reduces transit times and food wastage.
Similarly, projects like the University Boulevard in Umuisi/Uturu and key erosion control sites safeguard critical academic and economic corridors from environmental degradation.
Through Senator Kalu’s commitment, the expansion of these interventions into the 2026 Budget signals a systematic effort to ensure no local government area is left behind in the constituency’s growth model.
By opening up Abia North’s interior, these projects lay the groundwork for self-sustained rural enterprise further solidifying that Infrastructure is the bedrock of local trade.
