The governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kwara State, Professor Abdulmumeen Olayinka Ajia has officially flagged off his campaign ahead of the 2027 governorship election, calling on residents to rally round the party to deliver functional governance and people-centered leadership.
The campaign flag-off, held at Oja-Oba in Ilorin on Wednesday attracted party faithful, community leaders, and political supporters from across the state.
Addressing the crowd, Prof. Ajia promised an inclusive administration focused on improving the living standards of citizens, noting that his close connection with the grassroots equips him to address the state’s structural challenges.
“I am part of the people, and I deeply understand our shared aspirations, challenges, and expectations,” He said.
“We are committing to run a responsive and accountable administration that puts the welfare of every Kwaran first.” He added.
Outlining his key priorities, the NDC guber candidate identified primary healthcare reform, educational advancement, and social welfare infrastructure as core pillars of his developmental agenda for Kwara State if elected in 2027.
At the rally, Prof. Ajia formally endorsed the NDC candidate for Kwara Central Senatorial District, Dr. Abdulrasheed Suleiman Omoda, describing him as a seasoned professional capable of providing effective representation at the National Assembly.
“A vote for Dr. Abdulrasheed Suleiman Omoda as Senator representing Kwara Central at the National Assembly next year is a vote for competence, capacity, and responsive legislative engagement,” He said.
Following the campaign flag off, Prof. Ajia led party leaders on courtesy visits to traditional chiefs across Ilorin to seek royal blessings and engage community leaders on his vision for Kwara State.
The delegation visited the Balogun Gambari, Fulani Alhaji Muhammad Aliyu Adebayo; the Balogun Alanamu, Dr. Ustaz Uthman Atolagbe Jos; and the Balogun Ajikobi, Alhaji Suleiman Abdulwahab Omokayode.
Shortly after completing his official visits, Prof. Ajia made an unscheduled stop at the scene of a road traffic accident in Ilorin involving a commercial tricycle, a private car, and a haulage vehicle.
Expressing concern over the incident, the governorship hopeful extended his sympathy to the victims and wished those injured a rapid recovery. He urged motorists across Kwara State to observe defensive driving habits and adhere strictly to traffic regulations.
He further pledged that if elected governor in 2027, his administration would prioritize statewide road safety orientation, improved urban traffic management, and sustained public awareness campaigns to significantly reduce road mishaps across Kwara State.
