Troops of Sector 2, Operation Fansan Yamma, have neutralised a suspected terrorist during a counter-terrorism and anti-banditry operation in Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security expert in the Lake Chad region, disclosed this via his official X (formerly Twitter) page on Wednesday.
According to Makama, military sources said the troops, deployed in the Galadi area of Sokoto State, spotted suspected terrorists on motorcycles while attempting to cross a road in Shinkafi. The troops opened fire on the suspects, killing one of them while the others fled the area.
The deceased was reportedly found wearing a woodland camouflage vest underneath his traditional kaftan.
Further examination of his mobile phone allegedly revealed pictures of him dressed in camouflage and brandishing a PKM machine gun.
Four mobile phones and N30,350 were reportedly recovered from the suspect.
The operation is part of ongoing efforts by security forces to combat terrorist and bandit activities across the North-West.
