••• Igbomina-born grassroots politician to lead campaign operation
Hon. Saheed Popoola, the PDP Kwara South Senatorial Candidate has appointed Hon. Anu Ibiwoye as the Director General of his campaign organization ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The appointment was announced on Tuesday and has been described as a strategic move to consolidate grassroots support, particularly across the Igbomina axis of Kwara South.
Hon. Ibiwoye, a respected grassroots politician and former Special Adviser on Agriculture and Water Resources to ex-Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, hails from Irepodun Local Government Area. He is widely known for his deep connection with the people and years of community mobilization.
Speaking on the appointment, sources close to the Popoola camp said the choice of Ibiwoye reflects the need for “experience, structure, and grassroots penetration” as preparations for 2027 intensify.
“Ibiwoye is not new to the terrain. He understands Kwara South, he understands the Igbomina people, and he understands how to deliver at the grassroots,” a campaign insider noted.
Hon. Anu Ibiwoye previously contested for the Kwara South Senatorial seat in 2011 under the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN. Over the years, he has remained active in party politics and community development across Kwara State.
Political observers believe the appointment signals that the Popoola campaign is prioritizing local structure and ward-to-ward mobilization as key to victory in the next election cycle.
Both Popoola and Ibiwoye are expected to unveil the full campaign structure and agenda in the coming days
