The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested a man in connection with the alleged killing of his girlfriend in the state.
The suspect, identified as Manaseh Bitrus Jatau, is being questioned over the death of 35-year-old Rebecca Ojoniko Jeremiah.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Mansur Hassan, disclosed this in a statement, saying Rebecca’s lifeless body was found on September 5 along Mai Angwa Street in Romi, with cotton wool allegedly stuffed in her nostrils.
Hassan said police detectives from the Romi Outstation rushed the deceased to St Gerald Hospital, Kakuri, where a doctor confirmed her death. Her remains were subsequently deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.
Preliminary investigations, according to the police, revealed that Jatau was the last person to speak with Rebecca on the phone and had allegedly invited her to meet him at Ebano Joint in Romi.
The suspect was subsequently traced and arrested at his workplace, Tomato Jos Company, in the Maraban Jos area of Kaduna.
The police said Jatau admitted during interrogation that he had an argument with Rebecca in his room over a phone call from another woman.
He allegedly told investigators that the argument escalated into a physical confrontation which resulted in Rebecca’s death. He reportedly said he later dumped her body in an open field near his residence in an attempt to conceal the incident.
The police said the suspect remains in custody as investigations continue, adding that he will be charged to court after the investigation is concluded.
