All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in Kwara State have called for greater unity, internal cohesion, and collective support for the party’s candidates as it intensifies efforts to consolidate its political structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The call was made on Sunday during the Oyun APC Political Summit and Special Prayer Session for All APC Candidates, held at the Oyun Local Government Secretariat Council Hall in Ilemona.
The event organized by Oyun APC G22 brought together party leaders, candidates, stakeholders, and supporters, with speakers emphasizing the need for members to remain united and resolve internal disagreements within the party rather than allowing disputes to create opportunities for the opposition.
Delivering the opening remarks, the Oyun APC Chairman, Mr. Michael Adewoye expressed confidence in the party’s prospects while commending the leadership of Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
Adewoye pledged that the local chapter would work tirelessly toward securing a landslide victory.
“We are committed to mobilizing our people to record a 100 per cent vote delivery for the APC across Oyun Local Government.” He added.
On his part, the Executive Chairman of Oyun Local Government, Alhaji Kamardeen Olanrewaju Akanbi (popularly known as Afisuru) while presenting the 2027 party’s candidates urged members to back them fully.
Akanbi described the Kwara South Senatorial candidate, Prince Lekan Adewoye as an approachable leader who had conducted extensive consultations across the local government.
“While I will not impose any candidate on our people, I have absolute confidence in the capacity of our flagbearers to deliver for our communities.” He said.
Delivering the main lecture titled “Unity of the Party,” the Chairman of the Lower Niger River Basin Development Authority, Hon. Abdullateef Gidado Alakawa urged party leaders and members to embrace transparency, discipline, and exemplary leadership.
Cautioning members against political inconsistency, Alakawa stressed that internal conflicts must be resolved within party channels.
“Issues arising among party members must start and end within the party, rather than becoming a reason for members to seek refuge in opposition parties,” he said.
Alakawa further advocated for a collective mobilization strategy, noting that the party must adopt a collective approach to political mobilization, a strategy of mass attack, and mass defence.
Expressing support for the party’s governorship candidate, Hon. Yakubu Salihu Danladi, Alakawa noted that the primary goal is to build a durable political structure, “likening our election strategy to a pyramid with an unbreakable foundation.”
He seized the opportunity to warn party members of the dangerousness of the so called “Rainbow Coalition”, urging them to embrace peace and work together for the party’s victory.
“Nothing good is going to come out of the so-called rainbow coalition because it is nothing but anti-party. Let’s bury our differences and unite ahead of the forthcoming general election.” He added.
In his goodwill message, the APC House of Representatives candidate, Rafiu Ajakaye represented by his campaign DG, Dr. Babatunde Salami urged party members to avoid divisions that could compromise the party’s strength at the polls.
“Let us remain united and avoid any division that could undermine our political leverage. I pray that every member reaps the ultimate rewards of their dedication,” He said.
Corroborating his sentiment, the APC Kwara South Senatorial candidate, Prince Lekan Adewoye expressed gratitude to the host community and organizers for the spiritual initiative principally designed to seek divine guidance.
“This gathering is not intended for political campaigns, but rather an opportunity to appreciate God and those who have supported our political journey,” He added.
The summit concluded with a special interfaith prayer session led by Christian and Muslim clerics, including Reverend Pastor Bukoye, Sheikh Fatir of Erin Ile, Imam Olorunsogo of Ijagbo, and Ustaz Tajudeen of Ijagbo.
The clerics urged participants to place their trust in God, offering prayers for the success of all APC candidates across their respective polling units ahead of the general elections.
