The Yeyeluwa Grassroots Mobilization Team in Ayedun has intensified its grassroots engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections, embarking on a strategic mobilisation tour of women’s forums across the community in support of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidates.
Led by Mrs. Veronica Segun, former member of the Kwara State Working Committee of the APC, the team visited various women’s forums in Ayedun, engaging directly with women leaders and members and sensitising them on the importance of their participation in the forthcoming elections.
The delegation included the Deputy Speaker of the 7th Oke-Ero Legislative Council, Rt. Hon. Sunday Julius Fasanmi; former Transition Implementation Committee (TIC) Chairman of Oke-Ero LGA, Hon. Olagoke Raphael Abegunde; Ward Women Leader, Mrs. Funmilayo Odeyemi; Mr. Opeyemi Abiodun Abulegiga; Mr. Raphael Adekeye, the Yeyeluwa Ward Coordinator; and Olateru Simeon Oluwasemilore, a member of the Yeyeluwa Media Team.
The team visited the Olabode Ifedapo Women Forum, Obajemu Women Forum, Olabode Towoju Women Forum and Abẹ-Igi Aanu Ladies Forum, among others, in what was described as a deliberate effort to take political engagement directly to the grassroots.
Speaking during the engagements, former TIC Chairman of Oke-Ero LGA, Hon. Olagoke Raphael Abegunde, urged the women to remain united and politically active as the 2027 general elections approach. He emphasised the importance of grassroots participation in determining the outcome of elections and called on the women to support candidates who would advance the interests of Oke-Ero and the wider constituency.
Also addressing the women, the Deputy Speaker of the 7th Oke-Ero Legislative Council, Rt. Hon. Sunday Julius Fasanmi, highlighted what he described as significant achievements and interventions of the Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq-led administration in Kwara and Oke-Ero.
Fasanmi particularly drew attention to the recent elevation of the Obajisun stool to first-class status, describing it as a landmark development and a historic recognition of the traditional institution and heritage of Ayedun.
He urged the women to appreciate the development and support the APC candidates in the 2027 elections, particularly Hon. Florence Olasumbo Oyeyemi, the party’s candidate for the House of Representatives seat representing the Ekiti/Isin/Irepodun/Oke-Ero Federal Constituency.
He also appealed to the women to vote massively for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR; Rt. Hon. Salihu Yakubu-Danladi, governorship candidate; Mr. Lekan Adewoye, Kwara South Senatorial candidate; Hon. Florence Olasumbo Oyeyemi, House of Representatives candidate; and Hon. Lateefat Titilope Bakare, Assembly candidate, stressing the importance of supporting the party’s candidates across the ballot.
The leader of the team, Mrs. Veronica Segun, emphasised the strategic importance of women in the political process and urged them to remain united, organised and actively involved in the 2027 elections.
Segun called on the women to support Hon. Florence Olasumbo Oyeyemi and other APC candidates, stressing that victory would require sustained mobilisation at the grassroots. She assured the women that when elected, Hon. Oyeyemi would not let them down, but would remain committed to representing their interests and responding to the needs of the people.
Speaking in a similar vein, Mr. Opeyemi Abiodun Abulegíga described the women as an indispensable force in grassroots politics and urged them to mobilise their families, friends and neighbours ahead of the elections.
He assured them that the Yeyeluwa team would continue to engage with the women and listen to their concerns.
At the Olabode Ifedapo Women Forum, its leader, Alhaja Yetunde Dada, offered prayers for the victory of Hon. Florence Olasumbo Oyeyemi and other APC candidates at the polls.
Alhaja Dada also used the opportunity to highlight key concerns of the women, appealing to the party and its leaders to create employment opportunities for unemployed graduates, provide meaningful empowerment for artisans and pay greater attention to the welfare of the aged.
The Yeyeluwa Grassroots Mobilization Team’s engagement represents another step in its ongoing grassroots outreach across Ayedun as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The engagement underscored the strategic role of women in the political process and the importance of sustained grassroots mobilisation.
For the Yeyeluwa team, the message remains clear: mobilise the grassroots, listen to the people and work collectively towards victory in 2027.
