The Nigerian Army has dismissed as fake a purported intelligence alert warning of planned attacks by Boko Haram and ISWAP on schools, churches, mosques, NYSC orientation camps and other public facilities across the country.
The Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, said the document circulating on social media and other platforms did not originate from the Nigerian Army.
Anele said the Army was aware of the document and had heightened security measures across its formations and commands to prevent possible attacks on vulnerable locations.
She described the purported intelligence report as speculative and urged members of the public not to regard it as an official security alert from the Army.
The clarification followed the circulation of a document allegedly signed by one A.M. Sodiq, which claimed that Boko Haram and ISWAP were planning coordinated attacks in different parts of the country.
The document identified schools, churches, NYSC orientation camps and other public facilities as possible targets. It also alleged that suspected ISWAP operatives had begun monitoring some of the locations.
It further claimed that the attacks could take place around the resumption of the 2026/2027 academic session.
However, the Army rejected the claims, stressing that the document was not issued by the institution.
The Army assured Nigerians that security formations remained on heightened alert and were taking necessary steps to protect schools, places of worship and other vulnerable public facilities.
