A 49-year-old man, Balamau Lardi, has been arrested in Adamawa State for allegedly stabbing his 37-year-old wife, Biyagwal Balamau, in the ribs.
The Adamawa State Police Command disclosed this on Thursday, saying the incident occurred at Kurnyi Tudu Village in Guyuk Local Government Area.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, the incident happened on Wednesday, September 23.
He said the police received information about the attack and officers from the Guyuk Divisional Police Headquarters quickly responded to the scene, rescued the victim and arrested the suspect.
The police said the woman sustained serious injuries to the left side of her ribs and was taken to a hospital, where she underwent surgery and is currently receiving treatment.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigation into the incident continues.
The Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, condemned the alleged act of gender-based violence and ordered the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case for proper investigation and prosecution.
