Motorcyclist Dies After Tipper Truck Crash In Lagos

A yet-to-be-identified motorcyclist has died after a sand-laden tipper truck reportedly rammed into a motorcycle at Ilasa Bus Stop, inward Mile 2, Lagos State.

The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

According to him, the accident occurred around 3:18 p.m. and involved a tipper truck with registration number 19F 992FG and a motorcycle.

He said LASEMA’s Eagle Response Team stationed at Cappa was deployed to the scene after receiving a distress call and arrived about 15 minutes later.

Oke-Osanyintolu said preliminary findings showed that the tipper driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle before it crashed into the motorcycle from behind.

He added that the adult male passenger on the motorcycle sustained serious injuries and later died at the scene.

Responders from LASEMA, paramedics from the Lagos Response Unit, officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the police worked together to manage the incident.

The victim’s remains were recovered and placed in a body bag before being handed over to family members at the scene.

The damaged vehicles were later removed from the road and taken to Ilasamaja Police Station to support further investigation.

LASEMA said the emergency operation was concluded successfully and normal traffic flow was restored in the area.

The agency condoled with the victim’s family and urged motorists, especially drivers of articulated vehicles, to exercise caution and obey traffic regulations.
