Soludo Govt Changes Stance, acknowledges Peter Obi’s Tenure as Governor

Law Mefor, Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Value Reorientation, has praised the performance of Peter Obi as governor.

Mefor spoke during an interview on the 90MinutesAfricapodcast, on Thursday hosted by Rudolf Okonkwo.

He stated that  the scrutiny of Obi’s financial records by the state government was not intended to undermine his achievements or presidential ambition, noting that the disagreement centred on the former governor’s claim that he handed no financial liabilities for successive administrations.

According to him, the state government objective is to clarify its financial records by disputing Obi’s claim that he left no financial liabilities for subsequent administrations.

The commissioner challenged Obi’s claim that his administration left N12.13 billion in an ecological fund account with First Bank’s University of Nigeria, Awka (UNIZIK), branch.

He reiterated that the state government requested the relevant account statement from the bank but found no record of the claimed balance.

“The intention of the Anambra State government is not to indict Peter Obi. Peter Obi did well as governor.

“There is no rift between Governor Soludo and Peter Obi. They are both in politics, and they have their interests to defend,” Mefor said.
