FGT Target 80000 Nigerian youth with Technical Skills Training
Federal Government has started technical and vocational training for 777 young Nigerians in Abuja as part of a wider programme targeting about 80,000 youths nationwide.
The training is being carried out by the Federal Ministry of Education under the IDEAS Project, with support from the World Bank.
Speaking at the launch of the third cohort in Abuja, ACCI’s 1st Deputy President, Prof. Adesoji Adesugba, said the programme aims to bridge the gap between young people and the skills needed in the job market.
He said the focus was not just on certificates but on practical skills that can help beneficiaries secure jobs or start businesses.
Dr Tinuke Temitope, Deputy Director-General of ACCI and head of the BEST Centre, said the 777 trainees were selected from seven accredited training centres in the FCT.
The trainees are being trained in areas including digital media, beauty and cosmetology, construction, agriculture and agribusiness.
She said the BEST Centre selected 200 trainees for digital media production from more than 800 applicants.
The programme will provide practical training, industry internships and employment support to help beneficiaries build careers and businesses
