The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has opposed former Petroleum Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke’s bid to present evidence of her acquittal by a United Kingdom court.
In a further counter-affidavit filed before Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja, the EFCC argued that the June 17, 2026, acquittal by the Southwark Crown Court was irrelevant to the issues before the Nigerian court.
The commission maintained that the UK proceedings were not being prosecuted in Nigeria and had no bearing on Diezani’s suit challenging the forfeiture and proposed sale of assets linked to her.
The EFCC consequently urged the court to disregard her further affidavit and the evidence of the UK judgment.
Justice Ekwo has adjourned the matter until November 11 for hearing of the pending motions.
