The People’s Redemption Party (PRP) has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration over persistent killings and abductions across Nigeria, accusing the Federal Government of failing to protect lives and property.
The party described the worsening security situation as evidence of what it called government incompetence and insensitivity to the suffering of affected communities.
In a statement signed by its National Chairman, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the PRP urged Nigerians to speak out against the violence and demand urgent action to address the country’s security challenges.
The party listed Kwara, Niger, Benue, Kebbi, Zamfara, Sokoto, Kaduna, Borno, Plateau and Yobe among the states affected by insecurity, alleging that armed groups and criminal elements continued to attack communities with inadequate resistance.
The PRP accused the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration of relying on public statements and promises rather than implementing effective measures to protect residents.
“The scale of the killings and abductions of helpless citizens and the rising impunity of their tormentors suggests that Nigerians live in a lawless country,” the statement said.
The party also expressed concern over the pressure on military personnel and local volunteers involved in efforts to confront armed groups, noting that persistent attacks had disrupted livelihoods and worsened economic hardship for millions of Nigerians.
It further alleged that the government was spending excessive public funds on securing political support while citizens remained vulnerable to security threats, although it did not provide evidence to substantiate the claim.
The PRP maintained that Nigerians should not have to wait until the end of Tinubu’s tenure in May 2027 before demanding meaningful improvements in security.
Baba-Ahmed said the president remained responsible for fulfilling his constitutional obligations to protect the lives and welfare of citizens.
“President Tinubu still has four months to go before his defeat. He has a responsibility to live up to his oath to protect the lives and welfare of Nigerians,” he said.
The party called on Tinubu to take responsibility for addressing the crisis and implement urgent measures to prevent further killings and abductions.
It urged the Federal Government to take decisive action to restore security in affected communities and safeguard Nigerians from further attacks.
