The Senior Special Assistant on Digital Innovations to the Kwara State Governor, Hon. Kayode Ishola, is set to participate as a speaker at the Creative Commons 25th Anniversary in Nigeria, holding on 22 October 2026 in Ilorin.
The event, themed “Keeping the Internet Human,” marks 25 years of Creative Commons, the global non-profit behind the free licences that let creators legally share their work and knowledge with others. It brings together creators, innovators, researchers and open knowledge advocates to discuss how sharing can make the internet more inclusive and expand access to learning and creative resources, particularly in Nigeria and across Africa.
Expressing his honour at being part of the programme, Hon. Ishola said knowledge should not be a privilege reserved for those who can afford it, especially in developing nations like Nigeria.
“Open knowledge and Creative Commons licensing can expand access to learning resources, empower creators, strengthen research, and enable innovators to build on existing ideas to solve local problems.
“Our development challenge is not just about building technology. It is also about creating an ecosystem where knowledge flows, creativity thrives, intellectual property is respected, and more people have the opportunity to innovate.”
Hon. Ishola stressed that an inclusive digital economy cannot be built by locking away the knowledge and resources that can move the country forward.
“Let us keep the Internet human, make knowledge more accessible, and ensure that Nigeria and Africa are not merely consumers of global innovation, but active contributors to it,” he added.
Hon. Ishola reaffirmed his office’s commitment to supporting the Governor’s vision for a technology driven Kwara State, where digital innovation creates lasting opportunities for young people and creators.
