The All Progressives Congress (APC) says it has completed preparations for the formal flag-off of President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign scheduled for Saturday, October 24, in Kaduna.
The party’s National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, disclosed this after meeting with President Tinubu alongside the Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, at the State House, Abuja.
Yilwatda claimed that major opposition parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Accord Party, had aligned with the ruling party’s campaign.
He described the development as a sign of growing political support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to him, the APC has secured support from political parties that had previously defeated it in elections, adding that their participation would strengthen the campaign.
However, he did not clarify whether the claimed support represented formal endorsements by the national leaderships of the opposition parties or alliances involving individual politicians and groups.
The APC chairman said the party’s campaign committees, state structures and members were fully mobilised for Saturday’s event.
He added that the meeting with Tinubu was to brief the President on preparations and the readiness of the campaign organisation to commence nationwide mobilisation.
Speaking separately, Yari said the APC would conduct an issue-based campaign focused on the achievements of the Tinubu administration rather than personal attacks against opposition candidates.
The former Zamfara State governor said the campaign council had resolved to avoid insults and name-calling, insisting that the party would present its record in government to Nigerians as the basis for seeking a second term.
Yari said the campaign would provide an opportunity to explain the administration’s policies and programmes and persuade voters to support continuity.
He urged Nigerians to assess the government’s performance before deciding whether to renew the President’s mandate in 2027.
The preparations follow Tinubu’s approval of the campaign timetable, which Yari announced after meeting with the President on October 9.
The Presidential Campaign Council was inaugurated on October 14, with Tinubu as chairman, Vice President Kashim Shettima and Yilwatda as vice chairmen, and Yari as Director-General responsible for coordinating its activities.
The Kaduna flag-off is expected to mark the beginning of the APC’s nationwide presidential campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections.
