Education, Youth Empowerment Take Centre Stage in Obanla’s 2027 Reps Agenda

Education and youth empowerment are expected to feature prominently in the agenda of Chief Joseph Adewole Gbenga (Obanla), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flagbearer for the Ekiti, Isin, Irepodun and Oke-Ero Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Having spent years in the teaching profession before retiring from active service, Obanla understands the importance of education in shaping lives and preparing young people for the future. His years as a teacher have given him an appreciation of the challenges facing students, parents and educators, as well as the need to create opportunities for young people to realise their potential. For him, education remains one of the strongest foundations upon which a prosperous society can be built.

As part of his proposed legislative agenda, Obanla intends to advocate greater support for students, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds. He believes that financial difficulties should not prevent capable students from pursuing their educational ambitions. Through legislative engagement and collaboration with relevant institutions, he hopes to promote scholarship opportunities, bursaries and other forms of assistance for deserving students across the constituency.

His vision also extends beyond formal education. With many young people searching for employment and sustainable sources of income, Obanla recognises the importance of vocational training, technical education and entrepreneurship. He believes that equipping youths with practical skills will give them more options to earn a living, establish businesses and contribute to the development of their communities.

The condition of schools and the quality of learning also deserve sustained attention. Obanla intends to use the platform of legislative representation to advocate better learning environments, improved educational facilities and support for teachers and students. He believes that meaningful progress requires responsible representation, engagement with relevant government agencies and consistent follow-up on issues affecting schools in Ekiti, Isin, Irepodun and Oke-Ero.

On youth empowerment, his position is that young people need opportunities to succeed, not just words of encouragement. Access to relevant skills, enterprise development and initiatives that prepare youths for the demands of the modern economy can help reduce dependency and encourage self-reliance. Obanla believes that investing in young people is an investment in the future of the constituency, as their progress will ultimately contribute to the growth of their families and communities.

For a man whose professional life was devoted to teaching, the interest in education goes beyond politics. As the 2027 elections approach, Obanla’s proposed agenda places emphasis on expanding educational opportunities, supporting vulnerable students and promoting practical skills for young people. His aspiration is to ensure that representation in the Green Chamber translates into meaningful advocacy for the people, with education and youth development receiving the attention they deserve.
