NDC Describes Members’ Defection to APC as ‘Good Riddance to Bad Rubbish’

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has criticised the defection of some of its members to the All Progressives Congress (APC), alleging that the defectors were induced with money, political appointments and other material incentives.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, made the allegation in a statement issued on Tuesday.

According to Director, the party was aware of what it described as attempts by the APC to lure its candidates into joining the ruling party.

He said those who defected lacked the values and ideological commitment associated with the NDC.

“To them, we say good riddance to bad rubbish, and we wish them luck in their political misadventures,” the statement read.

The NDC also announced plans to conduct fresh congresses to elect replacement candidates in the affected constituencies, citing the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026.

The party urged its members and supporters not to be discouraged by the defections, insisting that the development would not affect its commitment to providing Nigerians with good governance, security and prosperity.

The NDC further expressed confidence in its political mission ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring that “a new Nigeria is possible.”

However, the allegations that the APC offered financial inducements and political appointments to the defectors were claims made by the NDC in the statement.
