Rema Explains Why He Avoids Flaunting His Wealth On Social Media To Protect Young People

Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has revealed that he deliberately avoids flaunting his wealth and accomplishments on social media to prevent putting pressure on young people who are still striving to succeed.

Speaking in an interview with Jam FM, the 26-year-old singer explained that many young people, including his fans and others who admire him, look up to him and aspire to achieve similar success.

Rema noted that, as someone many young people consider a role model, he is conscious of how his lifestyle and public displays of wealth could affect their self-esteem and expectations.

He explained that seeing someone of the same age living a successful life can make others feel pressured to achieve similar milestones prematurely. According to him, everyone has their own time, and he does not want his success to make anyone feel inadequate or rush their journey.

The singer also pointed out that parental expectations and constant comparisons contribute to the pressure many young people experience. He observed that some children are compelled to pursue courses of study they have little interest in simply because their parents want them to secure well-paying jobs.

Rema stressed that he remains mindful of young people dealing with such pressures and would rather keep his lifestyle simple than contribute to their struggles.

He added that his preference for streetwear reflects his understated approach to fashion, noting that he rarely wears expensive designer labels. According to the singer, his chains and watches are among the few aspects of his lifestyle that could be considered extravagant.
