Super Falcons Midfielder Deborah Abiodun Signs New Washington Spirit Contract

Super Falcons midfielder Deborah Abiodun has signed a new two-year contract with National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) club Washington Spirit, extending her stay with the American side until 2028.

The deal also includes a mutual option for an additional year, which could keep the Nigerian international at the club beyond the initial contract period.

The 22-year-old joined Washington Spirit from the University of Pittsburgh Panthers in January 2025 but was loaned to USL Super League side Dallas Trinity FC the following month.

Washington Spirit subsequently recalled the defensive midfielder from her loan spell on August 26, 2026.

Since joining the club, Abiodun has made 21 appearances, recording one goal and one assist.

However, the Super Falcons star is currently recovering from an injury sustained while on club duty.

The new contract represents a show of continued commitment to Abiodun as she works towards returning to full fitness and contributing to Washington Spirit’s campaign.
