Lagos Police Detain Four Officers Over Viral Harassment Video, Disband Tactical Team

The Lagos State Police Command has detained four police officers captured in a viral video allegedly harassing a young man in Odogunyan, Ikorodu, and disbanded their entire tactical team.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, following an investigation that identified the officers as personnel attached to the Imota/Immortal Tactical Team in Ikorodu.

According to Adebisi, the officers were summoned to the office of the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, on Thursday, where a decision was taken to detain them pending disciplinary proceedings.

“The verdict was that these officers would be detained immediately, pending disciplinary proceedings. Also, the entire team will be disbanded,” she said.

Adebisi confirmed that all four officers were in custody and would face disciplinary action over the incident.

She added that three of the officers were paraded at the command headquarters in Ikeja, while the fourth officer remained in custody but was not presented.

“They are presently here at the headquarters for further inquiries, and I want to assure members of the public that we will take appropriate actions against them,” she stated.

The police spokesperson said the Commissioner of Police had warned that the command would not tolerate impunity, stressing that officers must carry out their duties with integrity and humility.

The command also thanked members of the community for helping to identify the officers and urged residents to continue reporting cases of police misconduct.
