The political fortune of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Isin Local Government swelled yesterday as hundreds of members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) defected to the PDP in Olla town, Isin LG.
The decampees were received by the PDP Senatorial Candidate for Kwara South, Hon. Popoola, under the Àṣọfin Rere 2027 movement.
The event, held in Olla, witnessed a massive turnout of PDP leaders, youth groups, women leaders and elders who trooped out to welcome the new members into the PDP fold. The defectors, drawn from various wards across Isin, said they decided to join the PDP because they have seen genuine leadership and equity in Hon. Popoola.
Chants of “Àṣọfin Rere, 2027 is assured!” rented the air as the former APC members were formally received and handed PDP membership cards.
Addressing the gathering, Hon. Popoola welcomed the decampees, describing their defection as a bold and patriotic move driven by the desire for better representation.
He assured them of full integration and equity, stressing that his senatorial ambition for Kwara South is anchored on fairness, justice and inclusive development.
“I welcome you all into our great party, the PDP. You have taken the right decision. Under Àṣọfin Rere 2027, no ward, no community will be left behind. We will ensure equity in projects, opportunities and representation for all parts of Kwara South. This party is your home,” Popoola said.
PDP stakeholders at the event described the massive defection in Olla as a clear signal that Isin LG and Kwara South at large are ready to return to the PDP, noting that the people are tired of APC’s failed promises and are yearning for responsive leadership.
The reception ended with fanfare as party faithfuls reaffirmed their commitment to work and deliver Kwara South for Hon. Popoola and the PDP come 2027.
