Iran’s Foreign Ministry has said the outcome of Israel’s elections will make no difference to Tehran, amid escalating tensions between the two countries.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei made the remarks on Monday during a weekly press briefing, as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faces a tight electoral race.
“It makes no difference to us who, in these elections, takes the helm of a regime that has brought nothing but violence and massacres to our region,” Baqaei said.
The comments come ahead of Tuesday’s legislative elections in Israel, amid growing threats by Israel and the United States to resume attacks on Iran following the launch of their war in late February.
Netanyahu has repeatedly argued that removing the Iranian government is the only way to eliminate the threat posed by the country.
On Sunday, he told Israel’s Channel 14 that he had instructed the Mossad intelligence agency and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to overthrow the Iranian regime.
However, Baqaei dismissed the Israeli leader’s remarks as “empty threats” and a “sign of desperation,” further underscoring the deepening hostility between Tehran and Tel Aviv.
