Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have arrested a pastor, Edwin Nwabueze, over alleged involvement in an interstate vehicle theft syndicate.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists on Friday.
Adeh said the arrest followed the theft of a Toyota Camry at UTC Plaza in the Garki District of the FCT.
According to her, the suspect, who hails from Oji River in Enugu State but resides in Benue State, identified himself as a pastor with Salvation Power Bible Ministry, located in the North Bank area of Benue State.
She explained that following sustained and expanded investigations, police operatives traced and arrested Nwabueze at his residence.
The suspect subsequently led the operatives to another location, where his alleged accomplice, identified as Sadiq Jamiu, was also arrested.
Adeh said preliminary investigations had linked Nwabueze to previous arrests by the Benue State Police Command over vehicle theft cases.
She added that further findings indicated that the suspects were members of an interstate vehicle theft syndicate allegedly specialising in stealing and selling vehicles across different states.
The police spokesperson said investigations were ongoing to determine the full extent of the syndicate’s activities and apprehend other members who were still at large.
“The arrested suspects are in police custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations,” the statement added.
