Kwara Govt Opens Portal for Student Entrepreneurs, Offers Equipment, Grants Up to N1m

The Kwara State Government has opened an application portal for business equipment support and expansion grants for student entrepreneurs of the state origin studying in tertiary institutions across Nigeria.

The initiative is part of activities lined up to commemorate the 2026 International Students’ Day and is designed to support students who own and operate existing businesses.

The programme aims to strengthen student-owned businesses, improve their capacity and create opportunities for entrepreneurs to expand their operations while pursuing their education.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Students’ Affairs, Salami Wasiu Onidugbé, said the initiative was designed to encourage student entrepreneurs and provide them with the necessary support to grow their businesses.

“As always, we want to continue encouraging students who have taken the initiative to establish their own businesses by providing support that can help them grow. Our aim is to give deserving student entrepreneurs an opportunity to build on what they have already started,” Onidugbé said.

He urged eligible students to take advantage of the opportunity and ensure they satisfy all the application requirements before submitting their entries.

According to the statement, successful applicants will have the opportunity to receive various business equipment, including industrial machines, washing machines, professional hairdryers, laptops, makeup kits, shoemaking filing machines, smartphones and tripods.

Other beneficiaries may receive product-specific processing machines and other equipment relevant to their businesses.

The government also disclosed that some successful applicants would receive financial grants ranging from N250,000 to N1 million to support business expansion.

Under the application guidelines, applicants must be indigenes of Kwara State, bona fide students of recognised tertiary institutions in Nigeria and owners of existing businesses.

Applicants are also required to upload a two-to-three-minute video showing themselves and their businesses, explaining the nature of their operations, why they need the support and why they should be considered for the programme.

Applications are to be submitted through the official portal, https://kwarastudentsaffairs.com.ng/.

The application portal opens on October 31, 2026, and closes on November 7, 2026.
