Lagos 2027: Sanwo-Olu Promises Peaceful Transition, Urges Hamzat to Sustain Projects

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has expressed confidence that the state will witness a peaceful transition of power without disagreement when his tenure ends.

Sanwo-Olu said the smooth transfer of power would be one of his greatest achievements as governor, describing it as more important than the physical infrastructure delivered by his administration.

He spoke during the unveiling of the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate in Lagos State, Femi Hamzat, alongside the launch of his manifesto and campaign.

The governor said with only seven months left in office, he had begun reflecting on the achievements of his administration, including the construction of rail lines and bridges, commissioning of hospitals and establishment of rice mills.

According to him, however, his greatest source of pride is the prospect of a peaceful transition between himself and his deputy.

Sanwo-Olu said, “But I will tell you one thing that I’m the proudest is not what is made of concrete, it is that Lagos is going to change governors without a quarrel.

“Think about how rare that is, across this country we have seen successions that have ended in courtrooms, we have seen deputies at war, in Lagos, the governor and his deputy walked into this hall together, will walk out together and in May with your support, one of them will hand over the stage to the next one.”

He described Hamzat as a longtime brother and friend, saying Lagos residents would be handing him one of the biggest responsibilities in the country.

The governor urged the APC candidate to remain attentive to the needs of residents, stressing that political leaders must continue listening to the people who elected them.

He also charged Hamzat to complete ongoing projects and ensure that no initiative started by the current administration is abandoned.

“Finally, when your time comes, handover the way you were handed over to it,” Sanwo-Olu added.
